EXPANSION PLAN FOR RECYCLING SCHEME

A non-profit Bridgnorth business has revealed that it saved 62 tonnes of furniture and household waste going to landfill last year.

Bridgnorth Furniture Scheme recycles unwanted items, restoring and repairing them to pass on to local people and those in need.

The store on Stanmore Industrial Estate is further extending its facilities by installing three new recycling banks from BCR Global Textiles.

Director Andrew Smith said the group hoped to recycle more items in 2012. "As well as a clothing bank we have one for unwanted toys and another for books and CDs" he said. "Donations will go to developing countries".

They also have a Bra Bank where bras similarly go to developing countries.

"All proceeds are donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Bras can be donated at the furniture scheme in plastic bags.

The scheme collects electrical equipment, white goods, bedding, beds, curtains, wooden items, furniture, crockery and cutlery.

It is unable to use gas appliances, soft furnishings which do not show they comply with fire regulations or glass items not bearing the kite-mark.

The store is always looking for volunteers. Call 01746 764494.
